Fascism is a deadly threat to all of us. There is no escape from the demand that we confront it. Politicians, the police, and the university will not save us. We cannot vote our way to safety. As always, police aided and protected the fascists, while permitting and assisting wholesale violence against counter-protesters. University officials refused to use campus security to protect students and others from a gang of hundreds of fascists. The General Defense Committee calls upon all people who value human life, freedom, and dignity, to enter the struggle against fascism in every way they can. Give to the fundraisers for survivors and surviving family members of today’s fascist murder. Talk to your family and friends, your coworkers and neighbors, and determine a way to directly and concretely confront fascist hate wherever it appears. If you can, join your local General Defense Committee or another local antifascist group. We may be entering a new stage of struggle. We are determined to meet the challenges ahead of us. We will beat back and defeat the fascists. We must defend each other. That means all of us.

so people are talking about the ACLU, and as a resident of skokie, the chicago suburb that ACLU won the rights for the nazis to march in in ‘78, i think it’s important that people know that we are historically a jewish town. at its peak, the jewish population was 58% of the town, and i think it was about 40% when the nazis tried to march, maybe more. the town used to be home to an estimated 8,000 holocaust survivors. i grew up pretty connected to my culture despite being a nonreligious ethnic jew because there are so many synagogues, jewish day schools, a jewish deli, a jewish funeral home nearby– even though our jewish population has lowered, it is still obvious that this town has jewish roots

one of the main reasons for protesting the nazi march on skokie in 1978 were “a huge portion of the town’s population is jewish and thus directly effected by nazis” and “we have a huge population of holocaust survivors here who shouldn’t have to go through the nazis marching through their town”

that’s the town that the ACLU fought for nazis to be able to march in. leaving out the town’s jewish roots when talking about the ACLU defending nazis isn’t right, because it’s important info

No. Fucking no. Protect yourself. Protect your identity. Wear a mask, wear a hood, wear gloves, wear long sleeves. Seriously this isn’t a fucking game. Your “white privilege” does not prevent you from getting monitored by police and doxxed by white supremacists. The best thing you can do to protect people of color (and everyone else) at a demonstration is to keep your identity (including your “whiteness”) concealed the best you can. Please. Be safe. Protect others by protecting yourself.

The situation on the ground in Charlottesville, Virginia, is still developing and unstable, but a few of our Redneck Revolt members on the ground took some time to provide the following reportback. We will continue to share updates as they're available. - For those who are still unaware, this weekend has been the largest convergence of far-right and white nationalist/white supremacist organizations in recent US history. They have descended on Charlottesville, a town of approximately 48,000 people, as a response to the planned removal of a statue commemorating Confederate General Robert E. Lee. Earlier this year, self-described White Nationalist Richard Spencer led a torchlit march on the statue, with the intention of terrorizing locals who support the statue's removal, particularly people of color. - This weekend, the stakes were raised at an event called "Unite the Right," organized to tie together white supremacist groups across the spectrum. Participating groups and white supremacist personalities included Richard Spencer, Matthew Heimbach of the Traditionalist Worker's Party, Baked Alaska, Based Stickman, Augustus Invictus, Mike Enoch, Proud Boys, the Ku Klux Klan, and Nazi groups.

Solidarity with Charlottesville

Fascist violence is taking hold in communities across North America. Charlottesville is one of numerous instances in which people from many backgrounds and identities came together to fight against this wave of intolerance and hatred. We stand with everyone who has and will continue to struggle to end white supremacy and the nascent “alt-right” that it hides behind. The willingness of communities to organize and fight against fascism is our best hope for a better world.

We have been working together? The Bloc yesterday was a coalition of groups (as it tends to be) and the camp in the park was a coalition too, of liberal groups, religious groups, Redneck Revolt, Socialist Rifle Association, etc. I get that MLs and Anarchists don’t get along on here but the ones who are willing to Bloc up are accepted by us.
From my experience, it’s hard to have unity when one side doesn’t show up at all or only goes to demask antifa and pass out papers (which is why I don’t fuck with the PSL and other groups near me)

I read your tag and I feel you but I don’t fuck with irl MLs because they demask antifa, they don’t fucking show up, they try to deescalate. When the election happened, the few MLs who were there attempted to stop a building occupation (which we had the numbers for) and demasked a few friends of mine. Similar events happened before to me during Ferguson with a PSL member. I have dozens of other stories of them acting as peace police and attempting to stop anything anarchists and antifa do, or trying to fucking take credit for it (like our occupy camp, our free stores, Food Not Bombs, etc etc). This isn’t ideological purity, it’s not wanting to go to jail for “Left Unity”.

Maybe MLs are different where you are, I hope to god they are for your safety more than anything, but many authoritarian leftists near me do the cops work, or just don’t show up. So this isn’t an anarchist problem from my experience.

This is similar to what the Socialist Workers Party in Britain are like, they have a nasty habit of collaborating with police forces and grassing on anti-fascists that won’t stay in their pen and let the good Vanguard denounce fascism via megaphone, from a kilometer away
